Intern Voices: Reflections from Montenegro

July 17, 2025

This summer, our Montenegro office welcomed a group of talented interns eager to grow their skills and explore the world of software development. In this blog, they share the highlights of their experience from hands-on learning and technical growth to the support that helped them thrive. Read on to find out what made the internship meaningful, and how effort, mentorship, and opportunity came together to shape the next steps in their careers!

Jovana Kalezic

Hi Jovana! Please introduce yourself.

Hi! I’m Jovana, and I had the opportunity to join FLS as an intern over the past few months. I'm in my final year studying electrical engineering, and have three years of experience in technical support . I’m passionate about everything computer-related, especially web development and machine learning.

Describe a moment during your internship that really stood out to you.

Having my efforts recognized, and being offered a job. It felt incredibly rewarding to see my hard work pay off. It gave me a real sense of accomplishment and motivation. I also felt lucky to have such  supportive teammates and mentor during the internship. Working with someone so reliable and friendly made every challenge easier.

What new skills or tools did you learn during your time with us?

I picked up practical experience with tools like Postman, Git+GitHub and different test case/bug report tracking systems, and databases. I learned how to manage my time and ensure good test coverage, how to organize my workload efficiently, and what common issues to keep an eye on.

How has the internship prepared you for your career?

It gave me a realistic view of what it’s like to work in a professional, high-achieving environment. I learned its alright not to know everything if you are willing to learn, that hard work can make up for the lack of experience, and gaining experience will make the work easier. There will always be challenges, but with the right mentality they become the best (or most interesting) part of the job.

What was your biggest lesson during the internship?

I’ll always remember the kindness and support I received from the team. It reminded me how important a healthy work culture is.

Pavle Lakicevic

Hi Pavle! What inspired you to apply for the internship?

I come from a non-IT background but have completed several  QA and web development courses to switch to an IT career. What motivated me to apply for this internship was the supportive environment for newcomers and the opportunity to work on real projects. I'm someone who’s been actively learning and upgrading my skills, and this internship felt like a great next step to gain practical experience and grow in a professional setting.

How has the internship prepared you for your career?

This internship helped me connect theory with practice, especially in areas like writing structured test cases, understanding real-life workflows, and collaborating in a QA team. It gave me practical insight into how quality assurance supports the overall development process, which I didn’t fully grasp during my course training.

What will you take with you from this experience?

Professionally, I gained confidence in designing test cases, analyzing requirements, and thinking critically about software behavior. Personally, I’ve learned the value of communication, asking questions, and staying adaptable in a team setting. This experience strengthened my passion for QA and confirmed that this is the career path I want to grow in.

Describe your internship experience in 3 words.

Challenging. Insightful. Motivating.

Bojana Vujovic

Hi Bojana! Please tell us about yourself. Why did you decide to apply for the QA internship?

I’m 27 and this was my first job in the IT field. Last year I completed a Manual QA course, without expecting to land a position right away, or even within the year. But this Internship opportunity was too good to pass up. I saw it as an ideal starting point for launching my career in QA.

What new skills or tools did you learn during your time with us?

I had no previous practical experience, so everything I did and learned was new to me. I gained hands-on experience with several new tools and developed key skills essential for QA. I learned how to effectively use tools like JIRA for reporting bugs in a structured format and TestLink, for writing and organizing test cases. I became proficient in using Postman for API testing, which helped me validate request/response structures, I used pgAdmin to run SQL queries, allowing me to verify data directly in the database and ensure data integrity during testing. I also became familiar with Kafka UI and Redis Insight, which gave me insight into how real-time data flows.

How has the internship prepared you for a QA career?

The internship has given me valuable practical experience that directly supports my future career in software quality assurance. I developed critical soft skills like attention to detail, and I got better at managing my time and prioritizing tasks. The internship allowed me to build a strong foundation in manual QA while gaining exposure to real-testing environments. It definitely bridged the gap between theory and practice, and I now feel much more confident and prepared to contribute effectively in a professional QA role.

What will you take away from this experience?

Most of all, I’m taking with me the mindset of continuous learning and improvement. This experience helped me become more confident, and helped me realise that challenges should not create fear, but rather spark excitement and curiosity. Real growth happens when you are willing to take on challenges, even if they push you out of your comfort zone.

This summer showed us what can happen when curiosity meets opportunity. We’re proud of everything Jovana, Pavle, and Bojana achieved, and we’re not stopping here! More internships are coming soon in other First Line locations. Stay tuned!
