Client

A midsize services company with more than ten years of experience in the market faced the challenges of optimizing internal processes and building a strong HR brand strategy.

Challenge

First Line Software needs to develop sustainable programs that keep employees motivated over time. The program must be adapted to accommodate future growth and changes in the company’s structure. Gamification elements must be created that align with company values and resonate with employees. A fair and motivating reward structure must be implemented, and friendly competition and teamwork must be cultivated.

We decided to implement Optimizely CMS and .NET 6 as the internal web portal for our Client, tackling the critical challenge of motivating and upskilling geographically dispersed teams.

This new platform version should smoothly improve knowledge and skill development. Tailored content based on employee roles, interests, or departments. Provide additional integration of social media elements like commenting, liking, and sharing. Improve learning and development resources to give access to training materials and career development tools.

Approach

Our initial phase involved a research client’s internal operations and needs. This included analyzing existing workflows, team dynamics, and employee engagement strategies. By fostering close collaboration between our development team and the client’s team, we gained a comprehensive understanding of their specific challenges.

The project was divided into several phases: initial development, MVP deployment, feature expansions, and continuous maintenance.

We focused on three key objectives:

  1. Boost employee motivation. Implement points and badges. Award points and badges for completing training modules, participating in discussions, or achieving milestones. Leaderboards can be implemented to foster healthy competition and showcase top performers. Going beyond daily tasks, the system aims to create a more motivated and engaged workforce.
  2. Enhancing employee recognition. The solution integrates with existing reward systems, providing greater visibility and control over employee recognition programs. Using Optimizely’s personalization features to recommend learning paths tailored to individual employee roles, skills, and career goals. This demonstrates the company’s investment in employee professional development.
  3. Strengthening the HR Brand. A satisfied and empowered workforce strengthens the client’s employer brand, attracting top talent in a competitive market.

Team Work

  • A full development team was assigned to the project. The team consisted of a project manager, business analyst, back-end and front-end developers, and test engineers.
  • We started with a discovery phase to understand employee needs, followed by an agile development process to ensure flexibility and continuous improvement.
  • The project involved more than ten developers from various countries. Our proven expertise in managing distributed workforces was instrumental in ensuring seamless collaboration, comprehensive onboarding, and efficient deployment processes.
  • A dedicated team conducted thorough workshops and interviews to understand the client’s operations, identify pain points, and define project objectives. Based on the gathered insights, we developed a comprehensive solution blueprint that aligned with the client’s strategic goals.
  • Utilizing Scrum methodology, our development team iteratively built and refined the solution, ensuring continuous alignment with client expectations. We conducted regular user testing sessions to gather feedback and make necessary adjustments.
  • By analyzing user behavior and performance metrics, we identified opportunities for improvement and implemented enhancements accordingly.

The Solution: What did we build?

We designed and built a customizable internal web portal tailored to the client’s unique challenges. This secure and scalable platform utilizes industry-leading technologies to deliver a comprehensive solution:

  • The portal is built on Optimizely CMS, Optimizely B2C Commerce, and .NET 6. Key technologies include NGINX, Keycloak, Microsoft SQL Server, Apache Superset, and Ubuntu 22 for the server. These core technologies provide a robust foundation for content management, user experience customization, and potential integration with existing reward systems.
  • Modular architecture for easy feature expansions. The modular design allows for seamless future expansion and integration of new features as the training needs evolve.

The Outcome: What were the results of the solution?

  • There has been a significant increase in employee motivation and engagement (e.g., participation rates, completion rates, positive feedback). This translates to a more motivated and productive workforce.
  • Enhanced visibility and control over employee reward systems.
  • Streamlined and automated processes for recognizing and rewarding employee efforts.
  • Increased operational efficiency and improved HR brand internally and externally.
